The evolutionary ecology of despotism

چکیده
In this paper, I investigate the relevance of recent work in reproductive skew theory to explanations of the evolution of social stratification in human societies. I briefly review human social evolution and corresponding increases in stratification, as well as recent developments in skew theory. I then attempt to integrate basic factors that have been a focus of interest by skew theorists to previous work on human social stratification from an evolutionary ecological perspective. I also discuss factors peculiar to human social systems that could profitably be incorporated into future models of reproductive skew. D 2005 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Comparative Phylogenetic Perspectives on the Evolutionary Relationships in the Brine Shrimp Artemia Leach, 1819 (Crustacea: Anostraca) Based on Secondary Structure of ITS1 Gene
This is the first study on phylogenetic relationships in the genus Artemia Leach, 1819 using the pattern and sequence of secondary structures of internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1). Significant intraspecific variation in the secondary structure of ITS1 rRNA was found in Artemia tibetiana. In the phylogenetic tree based on joined primary and secondary structure sequences, Artemia urmiana and pa...
متن کاملAn evolutionary model explaining the Neolithic transition from egalitarianism to leadership and despotism.
The Neolithic was marked by a transition from small and relatively egalitarian groups to much larger groups with increased stratification. But, the dynamics of this remain poorly understood. It is hard to see how despotism can arise without coercion, yet coercion could not easily have occurred in an egalitarian setting. Using a quantitative model of evolution in a patch-structured population, w...
متن کاملFractal Population Ecology Theory
Abstract Purpose - The aim of this paper is to describe the population ecology theory through fractal thinking, an emergent human operating system that is creative, adaptive, healthy, and evolutionary; furthermore, a parallel is drawn between the population ecology model and the fractal structure. Top-down hierarchies are typically characterized by command and control systems of the authority t...
متن کاملCognitive Criteria for the Moral Solution of the False Brothers “Independence” and “Despotism” of Judges Based on Religious Sources
The independence of judges in arbitration is an important process that is mentioned in the one hundred and fifty-sixth article of the Constitution. The main issue of this research is the moral solution of the false brothers of independence and despotism in judgment. Judges sometimes become confused between the two when making decisions and sentencing, which can only be resolved by recognizing t...
متن کاملVariation in grouping patterns, mating systems and social structure: what socio-ecological models attempt to explain.
Socio-ecological models aim to predict the variation in social systems based on a limited number of ecological parameters. Since the 1960s, the original model has taken two paths: one relating to grouping patterns and mating systems and one relating to grouping patterns and female social structure. Here, we review the basic ideas specifically with regard to non-human primates, present new resul...
